THE METRIC SYSTEM

Mexico uses the metric system of weights and measures (as opposed to the Imperial system, which is what Americans use), so whether it’s milk, ribbon, fabric, weight, height or distance, it’s going to be measured in liters, kilos, meters, centimeters, etc.

If you’re not used to the metric system, it might seem intimidating at first, with all of those m's and l's, but if you spend a little time learning it, you'll realize that it's quite systematic and straightforward.

It's helpful to remember that a meter is just a little longer than one yard. Liters are also a very common measurement. It might help to think of the size of a 2-liter bottle of soda as a reference.

When driving, you'll need to think in terms of kilometers per hour (KMH) rather than miles per hour (MPH). To convert KM to MPH, simply multiply by .6.
