Within Mexico
Making calls within Mexico is quite simple. Here’s the only rule you’ll need to remember: the phone number needs to have 10 digits.
The format is:
area code (3) + local number (7) OR area code (2) + local number (8)*
example: 415 153 1111
* e.g., Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey
Years ago the format was different and depended on whether you were calling to/from a landline and to/from a cell. But in 2019, the format was standardized, making calling much, much easier.
International Calls
The configuration for international calls has also been standardized.
The format is: the plus sign + the country code + area code + local number
example: +52 415 153 1111 (to call Mexico from outside of Mexico)
example: +1 213 724 1433 (to call the US from outside the US)
You can find a list of country codes here.
