Tasteful Charming Home Near Malanquin Country Club

First time visitors of San Miguel often comment on the wonderful “pop” of color that greets them as they explore the town.  This home illustrates that “pop” in a fun and exciting way, while always maintaining gracious taste and style.

The facade is classic San Miguel, with cantera framed windows and doors, climbing bougainvillea and clay pots full of blooms on the roof’s ledge.  The vibrant red entryway greets you joyfully and ushers you into the living and dining areas.  This whole area features a warm tejamanil ceiling treatment.

The living area is inviting and you’ll enjoy the central fireplace on chilly evenings.  The adjoining dining room sits along a large picture window and has French doors which overlook a spacious, sunny loggia (covered patio).  The kitchen, just opposite the dining area, provides extensive storage and understated countertops which are beautifully accented by red cabinetry.  A special built-in includes space for a microwave and wine rack.  A window above the kitchen brings in extra light and affords another view to the exterior courtyard.

Just to the left of the entryway is the gently curving staircase which leads to two bedrooms upstairs.  An artistic stained glass window provides interest, as does the tunnel boveda and high ceilings overhead.  The master bedroom is well proportioned and has a corner fireplace and wood beam accents.  This bedroom is also home to a wall of windows which looks out to a spacious patio with overhead shade.  The bathroom has double sinks, an overhead skylight and glassed in shower.

A second ensuite bedroom boasts French doors which also look out onto the patio.  The bathroom is a treat; the shower has an overhead skylight accented by wood beams, and talavera tiles in yellow and green brighten the whole room.

This patio also leads to the rooftop terrace, where you’ll be able to take in the expansive views to the lake and surrounding mountains.  An atrium not only gives shade and a cozy sitting area but also makes use of solar panels which will reduce your electric bill to nearly nothing.

Back downstairs, the loggia is best considered a third living area and the perfect spot for sipping your morning coffee or late afternoon cocktails with friends.  It incorporates a fully tiled floor, tejamanil treatment overhead and drapes for shade and rain protection.  It’s anchored by a lovely fountain with cobalt blue accents and cantera columns, and overlooks the courtyard.  At the far end of the courtyard is a bar with kitchenette, a fun space for entertaining that is highlighted by intricately carved wood pillars and traditional Mexican tile.

On the opposite side of the courtyard lies a small office and casita.  The casita features a kitchenette with polished concrete countertops and a large jacuzzi tub in the bathroom.  This area works well for out-of-town guests because it affords them their own comfortable space as well as easy access to the common areas of the property.

A final “pop” of a different sort but worth mentioning is the location of this home.  It’s situated just outside the gates of the Malanquin country club in an upscale neighborhood.  Although you’re just minutes from the grocery store and multiple restaurants and specialty shops, you’ll appreciate the “countryside” feeling of this area.
