Should I register the deed in more than one name?

Whether or not to put your spouse, partner, or children on the deed is really an individual choice and usually based on your existing financial planning criteria.

However, in general, the more people named on the deed who have resident status in Mexico, the more tax exemptions will apply. Additionally, if the value of your sale goes beyond the exemption amount, the more people on your deed, the lower your capital gains tax will be when you sell your property

Unless you have good reason to not name those close to you as an owner, we generally recommend also putting your spouse or partner on the deed as an owner, and occasionally, your children.

However, be cautious when putting minor children on the deed. To sell a property where a minor child is one of the owners requires approval from a judge and is rarely approved.
