Casa Refugio

Casa del Refugio features the main house, a three bedroom and two and a half bathrooms, also built with adobe, is well designed to allow fresh air in a cross ventilation and at the same time keeping it warm when the fireplace by the living room is lit. This residence is designed to entertain by having an open concept in the living – dining rooms and kitchen, the sala has windows opening on both sides + transoms above three doors; Adjacent it we arrive to the large covered patio, drawing you to enjoy at any time its spaces, listening to the birds visiting the 200 years old mesquite tree while relaxing in the patio.

Stairs to the master bedroom act as a tower to draw up hot air and pass through the seven master bedroom windows and one boveda; a small study has windows along one side and a glass window that opens + a “French door’ onto the stair well . The study is up a half floor between the main floor and second floor. Built-in shelving for books is on all sides. The study is wired for technology, including Wi-Fi that is used within the home as well as in the casitas.

Master bedroom occupies the second level of the home, making it a secluded and private area, the master bath has 7 windows & a ‘French door’ leading to the 2nd floor terrace. Two of the windows are interior windows opening on the dressing room, which has large closets and two round wall openings for ventilation. One opens to master bedroom and one opens to stairwell.

Casa del Refugio its a large lot that allows to have several outdoor patios and sitting areas, its mature trees offer a nice shade on those warm days to relax in any of the secluded patios, by the tree or by the fountain.

The main house has interior wiring for TV hook up in each of the 3 bedrooms. There is also wiring for a sound system between the main floor and master bedroom.

Antique doors are used throughout the home.

Two guest bedrooms have a nice bath in-between. The hand-built tile tub is also a shower.

The second floor terrace is accessed, also, by rear garden stairs and has a covered sitting area. Third floor terrace overlooks SMA skyline (Centro is blocked by new structures). Mesquite tree in back garden is over 200 years old and provides shade for entire back area, equivalent to 4 stories. Thus the master bedroom, gardens and terraces are pleasantly shaded.

Two fireplaces, one in master bedroom, one in the living room, each fireplace is plumbed with a long gas jet. This allows use of tezontle that quickly absorbs and reflects heat or real wood. Tezontle and wood are much preferred to an artificial gas log set that has an aroma of propane. The fireplaces were especially designed and built by a New York chimney expert, thus the fireplaces ‘throw’ the heat out into the rooms, heating the areas effectively.

Front garden is completely shaded with trees and vegetation. This shade plus the large old wooden entry gate keeps the garden, casitas and home cool.

Casa del Refugio, an adobe built residence, offers lots of opportunities to become a great investment. On lot of 375 square meters (4,027 square feet) two casitas welcome you upon entering, each one is a one bedroom – one full bath, sitting area and kitchenette with stove and fridge. Ground level is Casita del Jardin, and second level is Casita de los Arboles. Both have been rented through the years on a steady basis.
